Bad Golf LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Bad Golf mobile application and web app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've tried to write this in plain English. If anything is unclear, contact us at Tyler@simplisticfishing.com.
Summary — the short version
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or run third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- You create an account with an email address and password so your rounds, stats, and friends sync across devices.
- The app uses your phone's location (GPS) for on-course yardages and satellite course maps. During a live round you can choose to share your position with the other players in that round.
- You can add a profile photo. You enter golf data: player names, handicaps, scores, and course info.
- You control who can see your stats — everyone, friends only, or just you.
- You can delete your account and data from inside the app at any time.
1. What this Service does
Bad Golf is a golf scoring, GPS, and side-bet app. You track scores across rounds, use GPS yardages and satellite course maps, calculate who owes who based on the betting games you've chosen, and play and compete with friends in live rounds. You settle up with your friends outside the app (Venmo, cash, etc.). Bad Golf does not process payments — no real money moves through the app.
2. Information we collect
Account information
- Email address and password — used to create and sign in to your account so your data syncs across your devices. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Supabase) and stored in hashed form; we never see your plain-text password.
- Profile details — a display name and, optionally, a profile photo and phone number that you choose to add when editing your profile.
Golf and gameplay information you enter
- Player names and handicaps — entered during round setup. Can be real names, nicknames, or initials.
- Hole-by-hole scores and round results entered on the Score tab.
- Stats — derived from your rounds, such as handicap index, putts, greens in regulation, and fairways hit.
- Course information — par, slope, rating, stroke index, tee names, and GPS map points — entered or mapped by you when you add or edit a course.
- Tournaments and rounds — saved event and round setups for your group.
Location information
- GPS location — when you use the on-course GPS features, the app reads your device's location to show yardages to the green, draw your position on the satellite map, and help map course features. Location is used while you are using these features.
- Live position sharing — during a live round you can choose to broadcast your position so other players (and spectators) in that same round can see you on the map. This sharing is optional and tied to that round; other Bad Golf users outside your round do not see your location.
Social information
- Friends and friend requests — the connections you make with other players.
- Live rounds and community activity — rounds you start can appear in a community/live feed and highlights, subject to your visibility settings below.
Information we do NOT collect
- Payment or financial information (no real money flows through Bad Golf)
- Advertising identifiers
- Third-party advertising or behavioral-tracking SDKs
- Your contacts, messages, or unrelated phone data
3. How we use the information
We use the information to operate and improve the Service:
- To create your account and sync your rounds, stats, courses, and friends across devices
- To calculate scores, handicaps, and bet outcomes
- To show GPS yardages and satellite course maps, and to share live position with players in your round when you enable it
- To power friends, live rounds, and the community feed
- To remember your roster, courses, and saved tournaments
We do not use your information for third-party advertising, ad targeting, or selling to data brokers.
4. Where the information lives
In the cloud
Your account, rounds, stats, course library, tournaments, friends, and profile (including any profile photo) are stored on our backend at Supabase (supabase.com), which hosts databases and provides real-time sync. This lets all the players in a round see live scoring on their own phones and lets your data follow you across devices.
On your device
Some data — such as cached rounds, your selected "me" player, and app preferences — is also stored in your device's local storage so the app works smoothly and offline. Uninstalling the app clears local data.
5. Visibility and sharing with other users
Bad Golf is social, so some data is visible to people you play with:
- Stats visibility — in Settings you choose who can see your stats: Everyone, Friends only, or Just me. We default to a conservative setting and you can change it any time.
- Shared rounds — the players you add to a round can view and edit that round's scoring. Only add people you want in your game.
- Live position — shared only when you turn it on, and only with players and spectators in that round.
6. Sharing with third parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with marketers or advertisers. We share data only with service providers that help us run the app, and where required by law:
- Supabase — backend database, authentication, and storage, acting as a data processor on our behalf.
- Map and imagery providers — to display satellite imagery and map tiles for the GPS features.
- Apple — for app distribution, TestFlight beta testing, and crash reporting on iOS.
- Legal authorities — if required by valid legal process (subpoena, court order). We would object to overbroad requests where appropriate.
7. Children's privacy
Bad Golf is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at Tyler@simplisticfishing.com and we'll remove it.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access: your data is visible to you in the app — in the Rounds, Stats, Setup, and Board areas.
- Correction: you can edit your profile, player names, scores, course information, and stats visibility directly in the app at any time.
- Account & data deletion: you can delete your account and associated data from within the app's account settings. You can also email Tyler@simplisticfishing.com and we'll remove your account and data.
- Location: you can turn off location permission for Bad Golf in your device settings; GPS yardages and live position will stop working, but the rest of the app continues to function.
- Stats visibility: set your stats to "Just me" to keep them private to your account.
9. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access rules on our database so users can only read data they're permitted to see. No internet-based service is 100% secure. Rounds are shared only with the players you add to them, so only the people in your group can read or modify that round's data.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact
This Privacy Policy is provided as part of the Bad Golf service operated by Bad Golf LLC. It is not legal advice and may be reviewed and updated periodically.
